4 nights through Australia

Four nights and 300 kilometres from Sydney to Jervis Bay in a campervan, on sealed road throughout, in four short legs.

The Royal National Park comes first, the second oldest national park in the world after Yellowstone, with the Sea Cliff Bridge curving out over the water just beyond its southern edge.

Kiama follows for the blowhole, where the swell forces up through a basalt chimney and soaks everyone standing near it, then Berry and Milton inland, both nineteenth-century dairy towns that have turned to food and antiques. Ulladulla and Burrill Lake come next on the coast, then Huskisson on Jervis Bay and Booderee National Park at its southern head, where the sand is quartz and among the whitest anywhere, and the swimming spots are sheltered.

Britz supply the camper and the day-by-day plan, and the hire is priced live per vehicle rather than per person; campsites, fuel, ferries, park fees and activities are all extra, with a nil-excess insurance pack available at booking. Five days and 300 kilometres makes this the shortest and easiest trip on the New South Wales coast, well suited to a first camper trip or to a family with young children. Whale watching boats run from Huskisson through the migration months, and the whole bay is a marine park, so there is usually something in the water worth stopping for. Jervis Bay also holds resident bottlenose dolphins, seen often enough from the shore to be unremarkable locally, though no sighting can be promised. Four short legs also mean the camper is barely moving for more than an hour or two a day, which leaves the afternoons free for the beaches rather than the road.
