Fourteen nights and 1,742 kilometres in a loop from Hobart in a campervan, which is the fullest Tasmanian itinerary Britz publish.

Eaglehawk Neck comes first on the Tasman Peninsula, with the tessellated pavement and the Remarkable Cave, then Triabunna and the ferry to Maria Island, a national park with no cars, no shops and a great deal of wildlife, including wombats that take no notice of people at all.

Coles Bay follows at Freycinet, where the climb up Mount Amos gives the view of Wineglass Bay that appears on every poster of the state, then the Bay of Fires and Eddystone Point, orange lichen on white granite, and Bridport on the north coast. Cradle Mountain comes next, then Strahan on the west coast, where cruises run up the Gordon River into the rainforest, and Mount Field with its tiered waterfall. Bruny Island closes the loop, reached by ferry, and the oysters there are eaten within a few metres of the water they came out of.

Britz supply the camper and the day-by-day plan, and the hire is priced live per vehicle rather than per person; campsites, fuel, ferries, park fees and activities are all extra, with a nil-excess insurance pack available at booking. Fifteen days is what Tasmania deserves, and this is the only Britz itinerary that gives it that. Three separate vehicle ferries can be involved, to Maria Island, to Bruny and across from the mainland, all of which want booking. Snow is possible in the highlands in any month of the year.
