21 nights through Sri Lanka

Twenty-two days, guided, on a Royal Enfield 350 Classic, going right round Sri Lanka and ending where it began.

The operator calls this an exclusive 22-day adventure designed to cover everything the island offers. It starts at Galle Fort on the southern coast, with a first meeting and group dinner at the hotel, and covers about 2,250 km at four to six riding hours a day. The riding mixes short and long days with rest days for sightseeing, and the roads range from well-paved to gravel tracks and rural dirt, between sea level and about 1,800 metres.

The first long day heads inland to Udawalawe, a national park beside a large lake. Ella follows, after a climb to around 1,500 metres into tea country, and then Sir Lipton’s Seat near Haputale, Horton Plains and Nuwara Eliya, the colonial hill station known as Little England. The route continues through Kandy and the Knuckles range to the Cultural Triangle, where Dambulla, Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura offer the ancient ruins, then goes north through Mannar to Jaffna, the northern dry zone the operator describes as unknown to most visitors. The east coast, Nilaveli, Gal Oya, Pottuvil and Arugam Bay, leads back through Yala to Tangalle and Galle. Wildlife depends on the season and luck.

The price is per rider and the pillion rate is lower. It covers the motorcycle, accommodation in luxury handpicked hotels and resorts, all meals, local and international guides, a support vehicle with crew and mechanic, airport transfers, entrance fees, damage cover up to US$500 and two safaris, one by boat and one by jeep. Flights, visa, insurance, alcohol and optional activities on rest days are not included. An International Driving Licence plus a Ceylon AA endorsement are required, and the operator arranges the endorsement on booking.
