Baja Mexico Motorcycle Tour - Cabo to Los Angeles

Baja northbound, which most riders reckon is the better direction. Eight days guided from Cabo San Lucas to Los Angeles, seven nights and around 1,290 miles up the length of the peninsula, finishing in Mexico’s wine country before the border.

It starts gently, 70 miles through San Jose del Cabo to Los Barriles, crossing the Tropic of Cancer on the way. Then the Sierra de la Laguna mountains and the old silver-mining town of El Triunfo lead to a long 283-mile day up to Loreto, with the Sea of Cortez alongside for much of it.

The middle of the trip is the remote part. Bahia Concepcion, Mulege and the French-built mining town of Santa Rosalia come first, then San Ignacio and the El Vizcaino Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO site and the largest protected area in Latin America. The Valle de los Cirios follows with its boojum trees, then San Felipe on the Gulf coast, and the route finishes through the vineyards of the Valle de Guadalupe at Tecate before crossing back into the United States.

EAGLERIDER leads the ride, supplies the motorcycle, handles the border crossings and books all seven nights. Fuel, most meals and insurance are arranged separately. Days run from 70 to 283 miles. Riding north means the landscape gets stranger rather than more familiar, and finishing in a wine valley is a reasonable way to end a desert trip. For riders flying into Cabo, or anyone who rode the southbound leg and wants the other half, this is the way to get home the long way round.
