7 nights through India

Seven nights in a circuit from Delhi, guided, 1,300 kilometres through Rajasthan on a Royal Enfield, in the shorter version of the operator’s desert tour.

This is the condensed route: the same fortress cities and the same desert camp as the thirteen-night circuit, minus Udaipur, Jaisalmer and Bikaner, for most of two thousand dollars less.

Jaipur comes first, the Pink City, laid out as a planned grid in 1727 and painted terracotta for a royal visit a century later. Jodhpur follows, the Blue City, under the walls of Mehrangarh, which rises straight out of a rock above the old town and holds one of the better museum collections in India. Pushkar comes next, a pilgrimage town around a lake with hundreds of temples and a rare one dedicated to Brahma, then Mandawa and its painted merchant havelis on the way back to Delhi, with a night camping out in the Thar Desert dunes along the way.

Accommodation in havelis, palaces and hotels in single or double rooms, the airport transfers, the Royal Enfield, all the meals, a guide, first aid, mechanics with spare parts, a chase vehicle, all the fees and permits, the drinking water and the extras including a Delhi cycling tour and the desert camp are all included; the India visa, flights, medical insurance, gratuities, alcohol and any damage to the motorcycle are not. The full day-by-day itinerary sits behind an enquiry form on the operator’s site. October to March is the riding season. Eight days makes this the shortest tour in the range and the easiest to take a fortnight’s leave for rather than three weeks.
