12 nights through India
Twelve nights in a loop from Kochi, guided, 1,150 kilometres through Kerala, ridden as a women’s-only group.
The format is what distinguishes it: the ride captains and the photographers are all women, and so is everyone on the ride, which for a first long trip abroad on a motorcycle is a considerable lowering of the barrier.
Fort Kochi opens the route, a port with a synagogue, a Chinese fishing net and a Dutch cemetery within a few minutes’ walk of each other. The Alleppey backwaters follow at Punnamada, with a boat tour through the lagoons and canals behind the coast, then Munnar, where the tea runs over the hills in terraces and the temperature drops twenty degrees from sea level. Valparai comes next through the Anamalai Tiger Reserve, where elephant are often on the road and tiger very rarely seen, then Ooty and Coonoor in the Nilgiris, the coffee estates and forest of Wayanad, and Thrissur before the return to Kochi.
Accommodation in inns, plantations and hotels in single or double rooms, the airport transfers, the Royal Enfield, all the meals, two professional guides, first aid, a chase vehicle with a driver, mechanic, tools and spares, all the fees and permits, the drinking water and the extras including the backwaters boat tour, the temple visits and the plantation walks are all included; the India visa, flights, medical insurance, gratuities, alcohol and any damage to the motorcycle are not. The full day-by-day itinerary sits behind an enquiry form on the operator’s site. October to March is the season, since the monsoon arrives in June.
