17 nights through Morocco

From a ferry port in Hampshire to the edge of the Sahara, on your own bike, with a guide riding alongside. Eighteen days and seventeen nights, two sea crossings and three mountain ranges, and the operator calls it his personal favourite.

It begins with an overnight crossing from Portsmouth to northern Spain, then works south through the Picos, Salamanca and Seville, with Ronda’s Puente Nuevo bridge on the way to Algeciras. The second ferry lands at Tangier Med, and Morocco starts immediately with the blue streets of Chefchaouen and a ride through the Rif Mountains to Fes, where a local guide takes the group through the medina and the tanneries.

Then it gets serious. The Middle Atlas and Ifrane National Park lead to the Gorges du Ziz, and from Erfoud the route reaches Erg Chebbi, where the dunes stand 150 metres high and run for 28 kilometres. A camel trek at sunset ends at a Berber camp in the sand, and that is where the night is spent. The Dades and Todra Gorges follow, then Ouarzazate, which has stood in for so many places on film that locals call it Ouarzawood, then Ait Benhaddou and the Tizi-n-Tichka pass at 7,415 feet into Marrakech.

Moto Travel Dude include both return ferries with a shared cabin, a UK guide riding his own bike throughout, Moroccan third-party insurance, local guides in certain towns, the camel trek and desert camp, four evening meals, all breakfasts and every night in hotels, riads and kasbahs with guarded parking. Fuel, insurance, breakdown cover and most evening meals are separate.
