16 nights through Morocco

The quick version of the Morocco run, seventeen days rather than nineteen, designed to fit inside two weeks off work. It drops the Sahara crossing and the desert camp in favour of a more direct loop, and keeps almost everything else.

The route out is the same as the longer trips: an overnight ferry from Portsmouth, then Spain by way of the Picos, Seville’s Plaza de Espana and Ronda’s bridge, then the crossing to Chefchaouen and a ride through the Rif Mountains to Fes and a guided tour of the medina and the tanneries.

Morocco then goes a different way. Beni Mellal leads to the Cascades d’Ouzoud, the highest waterfall in North Africa, then a short ride into Marrakech with a guided market tour and dinner on the Jemaa el-Fnaa. A rest day there offers an optional run over the Tizi-n-Test pass at 6,867 feet. After that the Tizi-n-Tichka at 7,415 feet, Ait Benhaddou and the Ouarzazate studios lead to the Dades Gorge, then the Todra Gorge and Rissani, with wild camels sometimes beside the road, then Ifrane National Park and its Barbary macaques to Meknes.

Moto Travel Dude include both return ferries with a shared cabin, a UK guide riding his own bike, Moroccan third-party insurance, local guides in certain towns, four evening meals, all breakfasts and every night in hotels, riads and kasbahs with guarded parking. Fuel, insurance, breakdown cover and most evening meals are separate. Three Imperial cities, two passes over 6,800 feet and a waterfall, without needing to book three weeks of leave.
