Seven nights across Scotland from the Borders to Glencoe, self-guided from three bases, in the guest’s own car, at a deliberately slow pace.

Two nights, then three, then two is an unhurried shape for a week, and the hotels are the thread: two Victorian hydropathic establishments and a Highland inn, all of them institutions in their own right.

Peebles Hydro opens it, a late nineteenth-century spa hotel in the Borders, with a free day that reaches Edinburgh, Linlithgow Palace, the Falkirk Wheel and the Kelpies. The Tweed and Clyde valleys carry the route to Crieff Hydro, set in a nine-hundred-acre Victorian estate, where an informal tour of the owner’s own classic car collection is included, with two days for Stirling Castle, the Glenturret distillery, and Scone and Blair castles. Glencoe closes it, at the Isles of Glencoe or the Kingshouse, one of the oldest inns in Scotland, with a Highland day and an optional run to Skye for the Fairy Pools and the sea cliffs.

Seven nights across the three hotels, seven breakfasts, seven dinners including the welcome dinner, the classic car collection tour, a road book with maps, drives and local attractions, a commemorative rally plate and VIP parking at every hotel are all included. The gin distillery experience at Peebles and the Land Rover experience at Crieff are hotel facilities rather than confirmed inclusions and are worth checking at booking. Late spring to early autumn is the season, and dinner every night makes the price better value than it first appears.
