5 nights through Spain

Five nights through Andalusia and Extremadura, self-guided, in an MGA Roadster, as a women-only tour.

The history of this route is written into the towns along it. Roman, then Moorish, then Castilian rule each left buildings standing, and in several places all three are visible from the same street.

The start is in the Seville region, and the driving runs on carefully chosen roads across olive groves, wheat fields and cork oak forest, through the historic towns and villages that carry those successive influences. Cordoba follows for the Mezquita, a tenth-century mosque of hundreds of horseshoe arches with a Renaissance cathedral raised inside it, which is as strange and as impressive as that sounds. Caceres comes next, with its medieval palaces and a walled old town largely untouched since the sixteenth century, then the hills, natural parks and lakes of Extremadura, which is the emptiest region in Spain. Tapas and regional wines run throughout, and the women-only format adds wellness time and cultural stops.

The MGA for the duration, the accommodation and the group meals including the tapas and wine are all included. The price shown is per person. Spring and autumn are the seasons, since inland Andalusia in high summer is extremely hot. Six days makes this the most expensive of the operator’s women-only tours, and the Mezquita alone would carry it. The roads chosen are the quiet ones rather than the fast ones, which is the right call in a 1950s roadster, and Extremadura at the far end of the route is as empty as western Europe gets.
