8 nights through Croatia

Eight nights down the Adriatic from Slovenia to Greece, self-guided, in a supercar sourced by the operator, with the price quoted on application.

Five countries in eight days is the shape and the coast road is the thread: the Jadranska Magistrala runs for hundreds of kilometres between limestone mountains and the sea and is among the great drives of Europe.

Portoroz in Slovenia opens it, then Opatija, an Austro-Hungarian resort town on the Kvarner gulf, and Dubrovnik, with its walls intact and its old town closed to traffic. Tivat follows in Montenegro, on the Bay of Kotor, which is a flooded river canyon rather than a fjord but looks like one, with the Kotor serpentines climbing out of it. Durres in Albania comes next, on a coast that has only recently opened to visitors, and Corfu closes the route in Greece.

A sourced supercar for the duration, luxury hotels throughout and a planned route are included; international flights, fuel and unspecified meals are not. The price is given on application. Late spring and early autumn are the seasons, since the Adriatic in August is both crowded and hot. Nine days and five borders is logistically the most involved thing the operator runs, and the paperwork for taking a car through Albania and onto a Greek island is precisely the sort of thing worth paying someone else to handle. The cars are allocated on registration rather than reserved by model, so the choice narrows as the event fills. The Kotor serpentines and the coast road through Croatia are the two stretches riders and drivers remember, and both come in the middle of the route rather than at the end.
