1 nights through Austria
One night of Porsche winter driving in the Austrian Alps, on a groomed ice rink of three and a half thousand metres, which is as controlled an environment as learning to drive on ice gets.
St Michael im Lungau is the base, with a hut evening the night before, and the ice centre at Thomatal is about thirty kilometres away at eleven hundred metres. The instructors are DMSB licensed, which is the German motorsport authority, and the cars run on studded tyres and are rotated between two-driver teams.
The training day covers braking technique on ice, drift training on a circular track and a handling course, with snacks on site and radios in the cars, and finishes with a competition the operator calls the Fight of Champions. Ice is the best surface to learn car control on, since everything happens slowly enough to correct. A two-day version adds a dinner at eighteen hundred and seventy metres with tobogganing afterwards, weather permitting, and a second day of free driving on a two-thousand-metre handling course.
The car from the available fleet, the training programme, the instruction, radios and course plans, a driver’s booklet, photography on the day and snacks are included, with the liability excess reduced to three thousand euros, and the two-day version adds two nights with half board and the hut evening. A single-driver upgrade and a non-driver package are extra. A one-day version is sold separately at a lower price, which is worth comparing if the mountain dinner and the second day are not the draw.
