9 nights through Spain
Nine nights across Tenerife, La Gomera and Gran Canaria, guided, flying out and hiring a bike there, run in February for the weather.
A winter riding tour that genuinely works is a rare thing, and the Canaries are the answer: volcanic islands off the Sahara where February is warm, dry and empty of other traffic.
Los Cristianos opens it for three nights, with the TF-38 west coast road and the Teno massif, then the north coast by Garachico and La Orotava up to the Teide Observatory at nearly three thousand metres, reached on the TF-28, which is known locally as the road of a thousand bends. Vilaflor de Chasna follows, the highest village in the islands, then the ferry to La Gomera for two nights and a full circuit of it, with deep ravines down to Valle Gran Rey and views over the Garajonay rainforest, a world heritage laurel forest that predates the last ice age. Santa Cruz, the Anaga park and the Punta del Hidalgo lighthouse come next, then Gran Canaria for two nights and a mountain circuit to Pico de las Nieves.
All four inter-island ferries with the bike, nine nights’ accommodation, daily breakfast, two evening meals, route maps and GPS files and a guide throughout are included; the flights and the motorcycle hire are charged separately, with a mandatory two-thousand-euro damage excess per bike, and fuel, entry fees, other meals and insurance are extra. The price shown is per person for a rider and pillion sharing a bike and a room.
