6 nights through France

Provence on a Vespa, which sounds like an affectation until the roads are taken into account. The lanes between the hill villages here are narrow, slow and lined with plane trees, and a scooter suits them better than a large touring motorcycle does. Six nights out of Aix-en-Provence.

Gordes gets the rest day, a village of pale stone built into a hillside above the lavender fields, with the Cistercian abbey of Senanque in the valley below. Lavender flowers from roughly late June to early August, so the timing of a departure matters a good deal to what the surrounding fields look like.

Moustiers-Sainte-Marie comes next by way of the Gorges du Verdon, the deepest canyon in Europe, where the road runs along the rim with the river a long way below. After that the route reaches the French Riviera through the Gorges de la Nesque and the Massif des Maures, with Avignon, Forcalquier and Saint-Tropez all on the itinerary, before the return to Aix.

Edelweiss include a choice of Vespa, six nights of hotels, a guide and a tour book, with flights separate and the inclusions not itemised in full on the operator’s page. Prices are per person for 2026. At 3,760 euros it is not a cheap week, and it is worth being clear about what it is: a touring holiday in which the vehicle sets a gentle pace and keeps the rider close to the landscape, rather than a riding challenge. For couples, and for anyone who finds a full day on a big bike more tiring than enjoyable, that is a feature.
