13 nights through Norway

Fourteen days the length of Norway, from Alesund to Tromso, crossing the Arctic Circle and reaching the North Cape, the furthest north a road goes on mainland Europe. This is the operator’s most ambitious Scandinavian itinerary.

The Trollstigen gets it started, eleven hairpins up a near-vertical wall, which is a confident opening. Sunndalsora follows, then Trondheim, the old royal capital and the practical gateway to the north. Overhalla and Sandnessjoen come next along a coast that grows steadily more rugged and emptier of people.

Bodo marks the Arctic Circle crossing, and from there a ferry runs out to the Lofoten Islands, a chain of bare granite peaks rising straight from the sea with fishing villages wedged into the gaps. North of Lofoten the days stop ending: in high summer the sun does not set at all, and riders can be on the road at midnight in full daylight if they choose. The North Cape itself is a cliff above the Barents Sea at the top of the continent, and Tromso follows the next day.

Edelweiss include a choice of BMW motorcycle, thirteen nights of hotels, a guide and a tour book. This is a one-way tour between Alesund and Tromso airports, flights are separate, and the inclusions are not itemised in full on the operator’s page. The price quoted is per person for 2027. Thirteen nights is a serious commitment of time and 7,500 euros a serious commitment of money, and riders who make both tend to describe it afterwards as the trip that spoiled them for everywhere else.
