6 nights through Austria

The Stelvio, ridden alone and without a guide, for 1,690 euros. This is the cheapest tour Edelweiss offer and it goes straight at the road that most riders have on their list: forty-eight numbered switchbacks stacked up a mountainside, which the operator calls the most prestigious pass in Europe and few would argue with.

Six nights from Mieming in Austria, with the routes preloaded onto the GPS and a booklet to go with them, so the navigation is solved and the pace is entirely the rider’s own. Schruns comes first, then a side trip to St Moritz in Switzerland, which is the moment the trip starts feeling expensive even though it is not.

Sondrio follows by way of the Stelvio itself, and then Bolzano, before the return leg to Mieming. Castle Linderhof and Lake Como also feature on the route. Riding the Stelvio self-guided has one practical advantage over doing it in a group: the rider can pick the hour, and the pass is a very different road at eight in the morning than it is at noon in August.

Edelweiss include a choice of BMW motorcycle, accommodation at whichever of three tiers is selected from guest houses up to four star superior, and the preloaded routes. There is no guide, by design. Flights are separate and the inclusions are not itemised in full on the operator’s page. Prices run from 1,690 to 1,790 euros per person for 2026 by hotel category, and the trip can be extended at either end on request. As a first self-guided tour, this is both the cheapest and the most famous road in the range.
