10 nights through Peru

Eleven days through Peru, from the coast into the high Andes and back, taking in two of the most famous archaeological sites in the world. Arequipa starts and finishes it, a colonial city built in white volcanic stone beneath three volcanoes.

Puerto Inca comes first along the Pan-American Highway, then Nazca. The Nazca Lines are vast figures scraped into the desert floor between roughly 500 BC and AD 500, large enough that they were only properly recognised from the air, and they are best seen from a light aircraft rather than ground level. Chalhuanca follows as the route climbs inland.

Ollantaytambo marks the return to the Andes, and from there a panoramic train runs to Machu Picchu, the Inca citadel on a ridge above the Urubamba that was never found by the Spanish. Cusco follows, the Inca capital, then Lake Titicaca at 3,800 metres with the Uros floating islands built from reeds, then Colca Canyon, which is deeper than the Grand Canyon and is where Andean condors ride the morning thermals, though as with any wild bird the sighting is never guaranteed.

Edelweiss include a choice of BMW motorcycle, ten nights in comfortable middle-range hotels, a guide and a tour book. Flights are separate and the inclusions are not itemised in full on the operator’s page. Prices run from 5,600 to 5,840 euros per person for 2026. One practical warning worth taking seriously: much of this route sits above three thousand metres, and altitude affects riders regardless of fitness, so the acclimatisation days matter.
