12 nights through United Arab Emirates
Thirteen days from Dubai into Oman and back, which is a far better motorcycling region than its reputation for flat desert suggests. The mountains here rise to three thousand metres and the roads built into them are new, empty and superbly engineered.
The Hatta Dam starts it on the way out of Dubai, then Al-Aqah on the east coast, then Sohar across the Omani border. Muscat gets a rest day, a low-rise capital strung along the coast between mountains and sea, with a souk and a grand mosque worth the time.
Ras al Jinz follows on the Gulf of Oman, where the turtle reserve protects one of the most important green turtle nesting beaches in the Indian Ocean. Nesting is seasonal and nocturnal, so what a visit shows depends on timing and luck. After that the route works back through the mountains and wadis of Oman and the Emirates, climbing to around three thousand metres at Jebel Shams, which overlooks a canyon often called the Grand Canyon of Arabia, and Jebel Jais on the UAE side. One night is spent at a desert camp.

This is a winter tour by necessity, since summer temperatures here make riding genuinely dangerous, and at 9,160 euros it reflects Gulf hotel pricing rather than a long itinerary.
