Namibia 4X4 Wildlife Safari

Namibia in a 4×4 camper the operator provides, one per booking, with roof tents and a guided group. Fifteen days from Windhoek up into the Kaokoveld and back, taking in Etosha, Van Zyl’s Pass and the edge of the Skeleton Coast.

Etosha comes early, with several days of game viewing around the pan, which is one of the great wildlife areas in Africa and unusual for how visible the animals are against the white salt. The route then runs north west to Ruacana Falls and follows the Angolan border west into the Kaokoveld, which is as remote as southern Africa gets.

Van Zyl’s Pass is the serious bit. It is a steep, rocky, one-way descent into the Marienfluss valley with a reputation among overlanders, and it leads towards the Hartmann Mountains. From there the route skirts the Skeleton Coast National Park and turns south for Windhoek. Himba villages, the Ruacana and Epupa falls and rafting on the Kunene are part of the route rather than optional extras.

Active 4×4 Adventures include the fully equipped camper for each booking, all three meals a day, every campsite fee, all national park entry and the activities in the itinerary. Flights to Windhoek, insurance, visas and drinks are separate. The price is per person based on two sharing. Two things to raise when enquiring: Van Zyl’s Pass is demanding enough that it may carry an experience condition, and the operator lists a second departure that has already passed, so confirm the date you want is live.
