Adventure Colombia

Thirteen days through Colombia from Bogota, across the Andes to the Caribbean and back into the mountains. Colombia has become one of the best motorcycling countries in South America, with three mountain ranges, decent surfaces and a great deal of variety in a short distance.

Armenia comes first, in the heart of the coffee region, where the hillsides are planted in neat rows and the valleys hold wax palms sixty metres tall. Los Nevados National Park follows, a high paramo of volcanoes and glaciers reaching well above four thousand metres, which is a serious change of altitude in a single day.

Medellin provides the first rest day. The city sits in a narrow valley, is permanently spring-like, and has reinvented itself comprehensively over the past twenty-five years. Monteria follows on the way north, then a rest day at Cartagena, a walled Caribbean port with Spanish fortifications and painted colonial streets, and finally a rest day at Barichara, which is often called the prettiest village in the country and is built in white stone with stone-paved lanes.
