Alpine Passes, Austrian Tyrol, Epic Dolomites - 7 Countries

Seven countries, 2,200 miles and ten days, with the entry fees and tolls already paid. This guided tour treats the Alps as a single playground and takes in most of the passes anyone would put on a list.

The roll call is the pitch. The German Alpine Road and the Black Forest B500 come early, then the Grossglockner, Austria’s highest pass, then the Timmelsjoch on the Italian border with the Top Mountain Motorcycle Museum at the summit, rebuilt after it burned down in 2021 and the highest motorcycle museum in Europe. The Stelvio follows, the highest paved pass in the Eastern Alps and the one with forty-eight hairpins, then the Furka and Grimsel in Switzerland. The Furka is where Goldfinger was filmed.

There is history alongside the altitude. An optional run to the Eagle’s Nest, the Sound of Music hill, and Burg Hohenwerfen, which stood in for the castle in Where Eagles Dare and sits near the largest ice cavern in Europe. The Dolomites get a proper stay, and Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain, and Lake Achensee sit on the way.
