Atlantic Mountains Extreme

Three Canary Islands in seven days, linked by ferry, on roads that climb from sea level to the slopes of the highest mountain in Spain. Tenerife, La Gomera and Gran Canaria, out of Costa Adeje.

Teide National Park is the centrepiece. Mount Teide stands 3,715 metres above the Atlantic and the road across the caldera runs through a volcanic landscape of lava fields and pumice that looks like nowhere else in Europe. The Corona Forestal and the Teno mountains on the same island provide a complete contrast, laurel forest and sheer coastal cliffs.

La Gomera comes by ferry and is the quietest of the three, with the Barranco del Cabrito among the ravines the road crosses. Gran Canaria gets the rest day, reached by a second ferry, with the Pilancones natural park and the climb to Artenara above the Caldera de Tejeda. The operator brands this an Extreme tour in its RIDE4FUN range and is candid that the weather is genuinely variable, which on islands this mountainous means a rider can leave sunshine at the coast and find cloud and rain two thousand metres up on the same morning.

As a winter riding destination within four hours of northern Europe, the Canaries have very little competition, and at 3,310 euros this is one of the cheaper tours in the range.
