7 nights through Mexico

Baja California in one direction only. Eight days guided from Los Angeles to Cabo San Lucas, seven nights and around 1,195 miles down the length of Highway 1, finishing at Land’s End where the peninsula runs out into the Pacific.

It crosses at Tijuana on the first riding day and reaches Ensenada, then heads into the desert proper. The Vizcaino is the strange part: boojum trees that grow nowhere else, cardon cacti standing fifty feet high, and a road running through it for day after day with almost nothing either side. Catavina and the oasis town of San Ignacio break the journey, the latter sitting below extinct volcanic summits.

The Devil’s Grade is the riding highlight, a sequence of switchbacks dropping off the spine of the peninsula to the Sea of Cortez and the pale water of Bahia Concepcion, which looks closer to the Caribbean than to Mexico. Loreto and Ciudad Constitucion follow on the way to La Paz, then a final 134 miles through San Jose del Cabo to Cabo San Lucas and Land’s End.

EAGLERIDER leads the ride, provides the motorcycle, manages the border formalities and books all seven nights. Fuel, most meals and insurance sit outside the price. Riding days run between 134 and 236 miles on roads that are good but narrow, with few services, which is exactly why a guide earns their keep here. For riders who want the Baja run without the return leg, and a flight home from Cabo, this is the one.
