5 nights through Bulgaria
Five nights at Banya near Bansko, guided, with two days driving a 200bhp buggy in the snow and two days skiing at Bansko.
The winter version of the buggy break, and the snow changes the driving entirely: the same forest tracks become a matter of momentum and line rather than grip, which is either the appeal or the problem.
Sofia airport opens it, with a transfer of about two and a half hours to the Aquilon Spa Hotel at Banya, a briefing and a meal. Two guided buggy days follow in the snowy mountains around the village, with kit collected from the club base, lunch at a village tavern and a different route home each afternoon. Two ski days come next at Bansko, with a transfer to the gondola station, a packed lunch and a return to the thermal pools in the evening. Bansko has around seventy-five kilometres of piste and is the best developed resort in the country.
The buggy shared between two, third-party insurance, a two-day full Bansko lift pass, ski or snowboard and boot hire, the packed lunches, the guide and technical support, the gear, the fuel, round-the-clock Sofia transfers, a double room and full board including alcoholic drinks are all included; ski clothing, an off-piste guide, flights, travel insurance and spa treatments are not, and the usual supplements apply. The price shown is per person sharing. Winter is the season, and two sports in one trip for this money is hard to argue with. Six days arranged this way also suits a mixed group, since a passenger who would rather ski than drive is catered for on half the days without paying for a separate holiday.
