7 nights through Italy

Three very different Italian obsessions in one week: the Cinque Terre, Chianti and Ferrari. Eight days from Treviglio, seven nights and only around 660 miles, which makes this a route built for stopping rather than covering ground. Advanced riding experience is recommended.

The Cisa Pass carries the route over the Apennines to La Spezia, and the following day is left entirely free for the Cinque Terre, five villages stacked into the cliffs of the Ligurian coast, linked by footpaths and a railway line and still closed to most traffic. Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore can all be seen in a day on foot and by train.

Tuscany comes next. Pisa and the Piazza del Duomo sit on the ride south, then a day through the Chianti wine region, which is as good on two wheels as it is in a glass. The Strada della Futa, a mountain road over the Apennines with a reputation among Italian riders, leads to Maranello and the Ferrari Museum, where the racing cars are the point. Verona, a UNESCO site in its own right, finishes the week.

EAGLERIDER provides the motorcycle and books all seven nights. Fuel, meals and insurance are separate, and prices are quoted in US dollars. With daily distances between 95 and 160 miles throughout, there is time for long lunches and proper stops rather than photographs from the saddle. For riders who want a famous coastline, a serious wine region and a motor museum inside a single week, this is a very neatly assembled route.
