Fourteen nights from San Francisco to Los Angeles that takes in the wine country, the high Sierra and the coast, which makes it the broadest fortnight they offer in California. Flights, car and hotels are arranged together from the UK with a road book to drive it from.

Napa comes first rather than last, with two nights there, the Silverado Trail and names like the French Laundry and Gott’s Roadside in the same valley. Lake Tahoe follows, then the approach to Yosemite along Highway 49 through the old Gold Rush country, which is a far better road than the interstate and gets you there in the right frame of mind. Two nights at Yosemite cover the valley and Glacier Point.

Then the route comes back to the sea. Two nights at Carmel bring the 17-Mile Drive, Pebble Beach and Point Lobos, with Hearst Castle reachable and an extra night at Cambria offered if you want it. Santa Barbara follows, and three nights in Los Angeles close the trip, with the Getty, the Petersen Automotive Museum, the Academy Museum and the Lucas Museum all within reach.

Around 915 miles over a fortnight, with five stops of two nights or more. Big Sur is driven rather than slept in here, which is the main difference from their coast-only routes. The itinerary is bespoke, with nights addable and stops removable, and departures arranged around your dates. It suits anyone who cannot decide between the vineyards, the mountains and the ocean, and has a fortnight in which not to choose.
