11 nights through United States

Eleven nights in a loop from Atlanta, self-guided, through the music and the civil rights history of the Deep South, with the price quoted on application.

Three threads run through this one and the itinerary gives each proper weight: the civil rights movement, the music, and the Mississippi, with the Great River Road carrying the route south.

Atlanta opens it with the Martin Luther King Jr National Historical Park, then Chattanooga by way of Tunnel Hill, the first railway tunnel driven through the Appalachians in 1850, with Lookout Mountain above the town. Nashville follows for two nights, with the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Johnny Cash Museum, then Memphis for two by way of the Tina Turner Museum at Brownsville, with Graceland, Beale Street and the National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel, where Martin Luther King was killed in 1968. Natchez comes next along the Great River Road, with the Vicksburg battlefields and the antebellum houses, then New Orleans for two by way of the Rosedown and Oak Alley plantations, which were worked by enslaved people and whose museums now address that directly. Montgomery and the Rosa Parks Museum close the loop by way of Biloxi and Mobile.

The return direct flights, the car hire with zero excess and GPS and ten hotel nights plus one on the flight are included, with meals depending on the plan booked and the optional excursions priced separately. A one-way Nashville to New Orleans routing is available for a fee. The price is given on application. Spring and autumn are the seasons.
