14 nights through Austria

All four of the major Alpine countries in fifteen days, with three rest days built in. Austria, Switzerland, France and Italy, starting and finishing at Seefeld in Tirol, and the route is chosen to take in the mountain passes that matter rather than the shortest way between them.

Pfunds opens it, then a rest day at Andermatt in the Swiss heartland, which sits at the junction of several of the best passes in the country. After that the route crosses to Saint-Gervais-les-Bains on genuine Tour de France climbs, going right the way round Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in western Europe. Briancon in France provides the second rest day, the highest town in the European Union.

Italy comes next by way of the Stelvio Pass at 2,758 metres, and then the Dolomites for the third rest day. The return to Austria goes over the Grossglockner High Alpine Road, which opened in 1935 and is the oldest purpose-built panoramic mountain road in the world, which makes it a fitting way to finish. Fourteen nights is long enough that the riding becomes a rhythm rather than an event.

Edelweiss include a choice of BMW motorcycle, fourteen nights in comfortable middle-range hotels with Alpine character, a guide and a tour book. Flights are separate. A guided city tour of Innsbruck is available at 350 euros per person with a 65 euro single supplement, and the Alps riding preparation course at 420 euros. Prices are per person for 2026. Against the Vienna to Nice crossing, this one returns to its start, which makes the logistics simpler and the flights cheaper.
