7 nights through Austria

Seven nights and most of the famous Alpine passes in one trip. The Grossglockner, the Stelvio, the Mendel, the Gardena, the Furkajoch, the Gavia and the Albula all appear, which is close to a complete list of the roads that make riders want to come to the Alps in the first place.

The Stelvio is the one people book for. Eighty-seven hairpins stacked up to 2,758 metres, and the operator’s own description calls it a road every motorcyclist should ride at least once, which is a fair claim rather than a boast. It arrives on day four, after the Grossglockner High Alpine Road on the opening run to Lienz and a crossing of the Dolomites to Collalbo near Bolzano.

The rest day at Collalbo is well placed, and the town has an unexpected draw: Otzi the Iceman, the 5,000 year old body found in the glacier above the valley in 1991, is kept at the museum in nearby Bolzano. After the Stelvio the route continues to Pontresina in Switzerland, collecting further passes, then Warth in Austria, and finishes with a visit to Neuschwanstein on the way back to Erding.

Edelweiss include a choice of BMW motorcycle, hotels with Alpine character, a guide and a tour book. Flights are separate, and a guided city tour of Munich is available at 350 euros per person with a 65 euro single supplement. Prices are per person for 2026. This is a pass-collecting tour rather than a cultural one, and it is honest about that, so riders who want the roads will be well served and those who want to stop and look around should consider one of the operator’s slower itineraries instead.
