15 nights through Kyrgyzstan

Sixteen days, guided, on a BMW 650 GS Dakar, through the Tien Shan in the heart of Kyrgyzstan.

The operator describes Kyrgyzstan as raw, high-altitude wilderness, with towering mountain ranges, remote steppe and deep nomadic tradition, and rates this as a demanding expedition with an extreme difficulty. It covers about 3,100 km on a mix of asphalt, gravel, rough mountain tracks and high-altitude switchbacks, and the operator says it suits experienced riders. Conditions can change quickly, and the remoteness adds to the challenge. A support vehicle, crew and mechanic travel with the group.

The tour starts in Bishkek and heads east towards the vast landscapes around Issyk-Kul and the remote Karkara Valley. From there the terrain becomes rougher as the route heads to the former Soviet outpost of Enilchek, close to the borders with Kazakhstan and China beneath the peaks of the Tien Shan. High passes above 3,500 to 4,000 metres define much of the route. Gravel tracks, river crossings and remote mountain roads lead to Karakol and Naryn and on to the alpine lakes of Kel Suu and Son Kul. Nights are split between local guesthouses and traditional yurts, which the operator offers as a way into Kyrgyz nomadic life. Along the way the scenery includes canyons, steppe, grazing horse herds and shepherd camps.

The price is per rider, and the pillion price is on application. It includes the motorcycle, fuel and spares, hotels and family-run guesthouses, all meals, local and international guides, a support vehicle with crew and mechanic, airport transfers and entrance fees. Flights, visa, insurance and alcohol are extra. The listed departure is 25 June to 10 July 2027, with a maximum of 12 riders. The operator says the tour is not about comfort or smooth riding.
