12 nights through Namibia

Twelve nights along Namibia’s Diamond and Skeleton Coasts, self-driven behind a guide vehicle, with the price quoted on application.

The Sperrgebiet is the reason this exists. The restricted diamond area along the southern coast has been closed to the public for over a century and requires special permits, which the operator holds, so almost nobody sees what is in it.

Windhoek and a welcome dinner open it, then a flight to Luderitz where the 4x4s are handed over. Tsau //Kaeb National Park follows with its railway sites, ghost towns and diamond rush remains, and Bogenfels, a fifty-five-metre rock arch standing out of the Atlantic. The restricted zone comes next, with flat stony desert, the Khoichab pan, soft sand driving and mobile camping, then the Uri-Haugab Valley and a camp near Sylvia Hill, where some sixty thousand Cape fur seals breed. Meob Bay follows, once a diamond landing point, with boat relics, a police station turned museum and abandoned settlements, then the beach drive past the Eduard Bohlen, wrecked in 1909 and now six hundred metres inland as the coast has built out, and three nights at Shipwreck Lodge.

The expedition 4×4, an English-speaking guide in a lead vehicle, camp assistants and chefs for the desert section, the permits, two-way radios, the accommodation, most of the meals, the domestic flight, kayaking at Walvis Bay and all the lodge activities are included; international flights, fuel from day ten, the vehicle deposit and some meals are not. The price is given on application.
