20 nights through Namibia

Twenty nights around Namibia, self-driven with a support vehicle and crew alongside, in a 4×4.

The escort is the format. The guest drives, but a support vehicle with staff, first aid and recovery equipment travels with the group and every car has a two-way radio, which on Namibian gravel turns a long way from help into a manageable trip.

The Waterberg Plateau opens it, fifty kilometres long and sixteen wide, with white rhino tracked on foot with a local guide: the odds there are about as good as they get anywhere, though no sighting can be promised. Etosha follows for the waterholes, then the Palmwag Concession, which supports a substantial share of the world’s free-roaming black rhino, and Damaraland with the rock engravings at Twyfelfontein. The Skeleton Coast comes next with its wrecks and the Cape Cross seal colony, then Swakopmund, Sossusvlei and Deadvlei, Kolmanskop’s sand-filled ghost town near Luderitz, and Fish River Canyon.

The transfers, twin or double accommodation, the 4×4 with unlimited kilometres, premium cover, zero excess and unlimited additional drivers, picnic equipment, the two-way radio, daily breakfast and four dinners, the support vehicle and crew and the listed activities are all included; airfares, fuel, park entry fees, other meals, tips, insurance and visas are not. The price shown is per person sharing. The dry season from May to October is the window. Twenty-one days is the most complete Namibian itinerary in this database, and no wildlife sighting can be promised anywhere on it. The zero-excess cover on the vehicle is worth noting, since gravel damage is the usual complaint on a Namibian self-drive.
