15 nights through France

Fifteen nights across southern France, Sardinia and Corsica, guided, three thousand miles with three ferries, on the rider’s own motorcycle.

The two islands are the point and they are quite different from each other: Sardinia’s SS125 runs along a wild east coast through granite and cork oak, and Corsica’s D81 and D84 are narrower, higher and more demanding.

Chartres and its cathedral open the route, then Limoges by way of Oradour-sur-Glane, the village where an SS company killed six hundred and forty-two people in 1944 and which has been left as it was found, a place to go quietly. Millau follows through the Cevennes and the Tarn Gorge, with the viaduct, the tallest bridge in the world, in view, then Toulon and the overnight ferry to Sardinia. Two nights at Bari Sardo follow, with the west coast road and a ride-out on the SS125 through Gennargentu, then the crossing to Corsica at Bonifacio, with its clifftop citadel, and two nights at Calvi by the D81. The D84 carries the route over the Col de Vergio to Ajaccio, Napoleon’s birthplace, then the ferry back and the Verdon and the Route Napoleon on the way home.

The Eurotunnel crossing, all three ferries, fourteen nights’ accommodation, daily breakfast, four evening meals, route maps and GPS files, the parking and a guide throughout are all included; fuel, tolls, entry fees, other meals and the mandatory insurance valid for France and Italy are not. The price shown is per person for a rider and pillion sharing a bike and a room. May to September is the window, since both islands get hot and crowded in August. Sixteen days with three ferries in it is a good deal of logistics handled on the rider’s behalf.
