12 nights through United Kingdom

Twelve nights and around 2,200 miles across Scotland and Ireland in one tour, starting in Edinburgh and finishing in Dublin, with a ferry linking the two halves. Own bike or a hired BMW.

Edinburgh opens it with a welcome dinner and a free day, then Speyside by way of Balmoral, where a tour is possible when the King is not in residence, into whisky country for a night at a local inn. Inverary follows through Loch Lomond and the Trossachs.

The ferry crosses to Belfast, which gets a free day, then the route runs west to Donegal and south to Galway and its eighteenth-century Eyre Square. Killarney is next by way of the Ring of Kerry, the most celebrated coastal loop in Ireland and one that deserves the reputation, and the run south through the national park takes in Moll’s Gap on the way to Bantry.

Mizen Head follows on the rugged southwest coast, the most southerly point in the country, then Waterford and on to Dublin for two nights and a free day, with the Guinness Storehouse, Christ Church and its twelfth-century crypt, Malahide Castle and Temple Bar all within reach, before the farewell dinner. Hotels, breakfasts, three dinners, the ferries, maps and GPS routes are included, with fuel and other meals separate. The price is quoted per person. Two countries in twelve nights means real mileage, but it also means the Highlands and the Irish southwest inside a single trip, which is a combination nothing else in the operator’s range offers.
