Eleven nights from Cape Town to Clarens, guided, two and a half thousand kilometres on a Triumph Tiger Rally Pro, private groups only.

Two oceans, a mountain kingdom and the Sani Pass in one itinerary is a considerable amount of South Africa, and the mix of tarmac and gravel is what makes it work: the pass and the trails need the gravel tyres, the Garden Route rewards the asphalt.

Cape Town opens it at the Waterfront, beneath Table Mountain. Hermanus follows by Chapman’s Peak and the Cape of Good Hope, with whales often in the bay in season. A private game reserve comes next with rhino roaming free, then Wilderness and Knysna on the Garden Route, Zuurberg and Hogsback. Rhodes follows, the last village in the country reachable only by gravel road, then Himeville and the Sani Pass, the notorious climb into Lesotho that has a reputation few roads earn. Semonkong brings the two-hundred-metre drop of the Maletsunyane Falls, and Clarens closes it.

Eleven nights of twin-shared accommodation in quality lodges, transfers from Cape Town and to Johannesburg, all the breakfasts and two or three-course dinners, ten days of Triumph Tiger Rally Pro 900 with third-party insurance, GPS with the daily routes, dual-purpose tyres, an assistance vehicle carrying the luggage, qualified medical support and a motorcycle guide with two support drivers are all included; flights, personal insurance, fuel at around €350, visas and a €1,300 excess deposit are not. September is the month. No wildlife sighting can be promised, the rhino least of all.
