15 nights through South Africa

Sixteen days from Johannesburg to Cape Town, one way, taking in a safari, a second country and the Garden Route. It is the operator’s most straightforward African tour and a good deal less demanding than its Namibian expedition.

Mashishing comes first by way of God’s Window, a viewpoint on the Drakensberg escarpment looking out over the lowveld, with Pilgrim’s Rest and its preserved gold rush town nearby. Two nights at Kruger National Park follow, which is Big Five country and where the game drives are done in vehicles rather than on the bikes, for obvious reasons. What any particular drive produces is down to luck.

Eswatini is next through the Ezulwini valley, then Mkuze and a visit to the Dumazulu cultural village for an introduction to Zulu culture. Grahamstown follows and then the Garden Route along the southern coast, with the Swartberg Pass inland, an unsurfaced Victorian engineering feat of a road. The Bloukrans Bridge on the route offers an optional bungee jump that the operator bills as one of the highest in the world. Franschhoek gives a rest day in the winelands before the finish at Cape Town, over Chapman’s Peak Drive and out to the Cape of Good Hope.

Edelweiss include a choice of BMW motorcycle, fifteen nights across lodges, middle-range hotels and bungalows, a guide and a tour book. Flights are separate, between Johannesburg and Cape Town, and prices run from 7,010 to 7,310 euros per person for 2026. South African roads are good, fuel is cheap and the riding season is the northern winter, which makes this a strong option for January.
