Southern Italy Delights & Twisties

Ten nights running the length of Italy from Florence to the Adriatic, which gets the obvious highlights out of the way early and then spends its second half somewhere most riders have never been.

Florence starts it, and the first day heads south past Lake Trasimeno to Perugia, which has one of the oldest historic centres in the country. A rest day at Santo Stefano di Sessanio follows, a tiny fortified village in the Abruzzo mountains, and then the Gran Sasso, the highest peak in the Apennines, which is the point at which the riding becomes the reason to be there.

The Amalfi Coast gets two nights, cliffside villages and lemon groves and a road that is as busy as it is beautiful. Then the route turns inland to Matera for a rest day. Matera was European Capital of Culture in 2019 and its Sassi are cave dwellings cut into the rock, inhabited continuously for thousands of years and abandoned as slums within living memory, which makes it one of the more extraordinary places in Europe to stay the night. Castel del Monte, an octagonal medieval castle with no clear purpose, and the trulli of Alberobello follow before the finish near Bisceglie on the heel of the boot.

This is a one-way tour, flying into Florence and out of Bari, and flights are separate. Prices are per person for 2026. Southern Italy has better roads and far fewer motorcycles on them than the north, and this itinerary is built to prove it.
