Sturgis 80th Anniversary Motorcycle Tour - Denver to Sturgis

The Sturgis Black Hills Rally is the largest motorcycle gathering on earth, and this guided tour is built around getting there and back in good company. Ten days out of Denver, nine nights and around 950 miles, with four of those nights based in Rapid City for the rally itself.

The riding comes in two halves, one either side of the rally itself. The outbound leg crosses Wyoming, 278 miles to Casper and then 253 through the Thunder Basin National Grassland into the Black Hills National Forest, which is empty, fast country and a good warm-up for what follows.

Then the rally takes over. Four nights are spent based at Rapid City, with organised day rides available or the freedom to disappear into Sturgis and make your own arrangements, which is how a great many people prefer it. The Black Hills themselves are worth the trip regardless, and Mount Rushmore, Spearfish Canyon and Needles Highway are all within reach. The return runs through the hills to Cheyenne, then back into the Colorado Rockies to Denver.

Worth knowing that although the title says Denver to Sturgis, the tour starts and finishes in Denver with Sturgis in the middle. For riders who want the rally without the annual headache of finding a bed within fifty miles of it, this is much the most straightforward way in.
