6 nights through Switzerland

Six nights in a loop from Stuttgart across five countries, self-guided, over more than a dozen Alpine passes, with the price quoted on application.

This is the unguided version of the operator’s flagship Alpine tour, run at the guest’s own pace with the same planned routes and the same hotels, and with the car optional rather than included.

Stuttgart opens it with collection at the Porsche Museum and a night at the V8 Hotel. The autobahn runs south to Austria for a mountain lunch, then Italy and the Stelvio to a spa resort. Around two hundred miles of passes follow with a mountaintop lunch and a toboggan run, then two nights at a spa hotel, with the Furka, Tremola, Susten, Grimsel, Gotthard and Nufenen in a single day and the choice of the Rhone Glacier ice cave or the Gotthard fortress. Grindelwald and its cliff walk come next, then the Great St Bernard into the Aosta Valley, a run into France for lunch and on to Basel, and the Black Forest by Triberg back to Stuttgart.

Six nights’ accommodation, daily breakfast, the road book maps and the route links are included; fuel, flights to Stuttgart, lunches, most dinners and the car hire, which is optional and priced separately, are not. The price is given on application. Late May to October is the window, since the high passes are closed by snow outside it. Seven days without a lead car suits anyone who would rather set their own pace on roads this good.
