Vancouver Island Motorcycle Tour

British Columbia has an island and a mainland, and this loop rides both. Eight days out of Vancouver, seven nights and around 1,125 miles, taking two ferry crossings, the Sea to Sky Highway and the Okanagan wine valley in a single week.

Vancouver Island comes first. A short 70-mile day reaches Victoria by ferry, through the Gulf Islands and their small art communities, then the Malahat Drive, the Cowichan Valley wineries and the painted murals of Chemainus lead north to Nanaimo and on across the island to Tofino, which sits on the open Pacific and feels genuinely remote.

The mainland takes over next. A second ferry crosses to Horseshoe Bay for the Sea to Sky Highway, which climbs from the water to Whistler between mountains and inlets and is one of the best roads in Canada. Pemberton, Lillooet and Cache Creek follow to Kamloops, then the route runs down into the Okanagan through Vernon and Kelowna to Penticton, which is orchard and vineyard country around a long glacial lake. Manning Park and Hope close the loop.

Daily distances sit between 70 and 250 miles, with the two ferry days the shortest of them. Rainforest coast, a surf town, an alpine resort and a wine valley, all inside a week and all from the same airport. For riders who want variety rather than sheer distance, this is an unusually well-balanced week.
