11 nights through Canada

Eleven nights and 1,248 kilometres in a loop from Vancouver in a motorhome, in winter, up the Sea to Sky Highway and inland to the Okanagan ski resorts.

Squamish comes first, under the Stawamus Chief, a granite dome that is one of the largest in the world and a serious ice climbing venue in winter, then Whistler with a stay day, which has the largest ski area in North America across two mountains linked by a gondola.

Sun Peaks follows inland above Kamloops, the second largest ski area in the country and a village small enough to walk across, with a stay day. Silver Star comes next above Vernon, where the village is painted in Victorian colours and the nordic trails are extensive, then Big White above Kelowna, which sits high enough to get consistently dry snow and is known for the frozen trees on the upper mountain.

The motorhome and the day-by-day plan come from CanaDream, and the hire is priced live per vehicle rather than per person; campsites, fuel, ferries, park fees and activities are all extra, with insurance options priced at booking. Twelve days with a stay day at each resort makes this a ski holiday rather than a tour, and the motorhome needs checking for winter use: not every unit in the fleet is winterised, and the water system, heating and power draw all matter more in January than in July. Serviced winter sites are far fewer than summer ones and want booking. Lift passes are bought separately. The Coquihalla between Vancouver and Kamloops closes for snow several times each winter, which is the one scheduling risk.
