37 nights through South Africa

Thirty-eight days from Cape Town to Mombasa, through seven countries, on the rider’s own motorcycle. This is part of the operator’s World Tour series and it is an expedition rather than a holiday: five and a half weeks, the length of eastern and southern Africa, and a bike that has to be shipped out and back.

Cape Town starts it with Table Mountain and Robben Island, then the route works north to Fish River Canyon and the desert landscapes of Namib-Naukluft, Swakopmund on the Atlantic, and the Kalahari salt pans before crossing into Botswana. Victoria Falls follows, then Lusaka and Chipata in Zambia, then Senga Bay on Lake Malawi, which holds more fish species than any other lake in the world.

Tanzania brings the wildlife leg, including the Ngorongoro Crater, a collapsed volcanic caldera twenty kilometres across with a resident population of large mammals, and Kilimanjaro National Park. The Usambara mountains around Lushoto follow, and the trip finishes with two rest days at Diani Beach near Mombasa on the Indian Ocean.

One important practical point: the motorcycle is not included and riders must bring their own, though the operator can arrange a rental quote on request. Edelweiss provide the expedition support, the route planning and the accommodation, which the operator is candid will vary between three and five star depending on what exists locally. No day-by-day itinerary is published, so the detail has to come from the operator directly. Flights are separate. The price is 19,720 euros per person for 2027 on an own-bike basis, which makes this the largest single commitment in the catalogue.
