12 nights through India
Thirteen days, guided, on a Royal Enfield 500 Classic Desert Storm, with the hotels themselves as part of the route.
This is the operator’s luxury Rajasthan tour. It stays in old palaces and fort hotels, including Khimsar Fort, Luni and Castle Bijaipur, and covers about 1,930 km at four to six hours a day on desert and paved roads, which the operator rates as easy. The bike is the Royal Enfield 500cc Desert Storm, described as a bike made for the desert, with a support vehicle, crew and mechanic behind the group.
The first night is at the Aeroplaza hotel in Delhi, with an air-conditioned car and driver on standby for anyone who wants to see the capital. The group travels out by coach, picks up the bikes at a lunch stop and rides a short way to Mandawa, the first heritage hotel. The first big day takes the desert road to Khimsar, a fort hotel with an extensive collection of vintage cars and motorbikes. Jaisalmer follows, a city in the Thar Desert surrounded by dunes, and the group spends two nights there. A morning ride to the dunes swaps the Enfields for camels. After a long ride to Luni via Jodhpur’s Mehrangarh Fort, the route passes Kumbhalgarh Fort, almost deserted, the detailed Jain temple at Ranakpur and the lake city of Udaipur, which the operator calls the Venice of the East. In Ranthambore the bikes are swapped for safari vehicles to enter the tiger reserve, though a tiger sighting is never certain.
The price is per rider, with a lower pillion rate, and includes the motorcycle, fuel and spares, luxury hotels, all meals, local and international guides, support crew, airport transfers and entrance fees. Flights, visa, insurance and alcohol are extra. An International Driving Permit is required, and the dates are shown as price on application.
