5 nights through Bavaria and into the dramatic peaks of the Austrian and Italian Alps.

Five nights from Munich in a BMW M car, which makes this the one route Ultimate Drives build around a single marque. Only three driving days across the five nights, because the second day stays in the city for BMW Welt, the museum and Motorworld.

When the driving starts it goes a long way. The first full day crosses the Bavarian Alps past the Tatzelwurm waterfall into Austria, takes lunch at Zell am See and then climbs the Grossglockner, Austria’s highest paved road, before dropping south into the Dolomites at Dobbiaco. The next is the finest of the three: the Lago di Braies, then the Jaufen Pass and the Timmelsjoch, a 2,500 metre crossing with a motorcycle museum built into the rock at the summit, down the Ötztal and over the Kühtai saddle to Seefeld. The last comes back through Ettal and the Plansee to Füssen and Neuschwanstein.

Three nights at the Andaz in Munich’s Schwabinger Tor, one at the Hotel Patris in Dobbiaco and one at the Interalpen-Hotel Tyrol above Seefeld.

The cars are an M2 or an M4 Cabriolet, delivered and collected at the hotel, with the route, an eRoadbook and navigation paired to the car. The Munich day is sightseeing rather than a factory experience, so treat the BMW stops as visits to arrange rather than sessions booked for you. The season runs May to October. It suits an M enthusiast who wants to see where the cars come from and then take one over the Grossglockner and the Timmelsjoch in the same week.
