Slovenia, Croatia and Dolomites Self-Guided Motorcycle Tour

Twelve nights across Slovenia, Croatia and the Italian Dolomites, self-guided, with three free days in it and riders on their own bikes.

Vianden, the Black Forest and the Austrian Tyrol come first on the way east, then Bohinj in Slovenia over the Grossglockner, past the Pasterze glacier, and the Wurzen Pass, which takes three days of riding and gets the transit out of the way in one go.

A free day at Bohinj offers the Savica waterfalls and the Vogel cable car, Lake Bled and the Vintgar Gorge, or the Vrsic Pass with its fifty cobbled hairpins, taking in Kranjska Gora, Bovec and Tolmin. Porec follows by way of the Postojna caves and Predjama Castle, which is built into the mouth of a cave in a cliff face and is said to be the largest of its kind anywhere, with a free day for Pula, Rovinj and Hum. Corvara comes next over the Staulanza, Sant’Osvaldo and Falzarego passes, with a free day for the Sella Ronda circuit, then Sils in Switzerland over the Tonale and Bernina.

Twelve nights of bed and breakfast, eight evening meals and the return Eurotunnel crossing are included, along with the GPX routes and the itinerary; fuel, parking, admissions and the vignettes are not. Thirteen days for three distinct regions is a fair balance, and the Slovenian half is the part most riders have not done before. The Vrsic cobbles want care in the wet, and the high passes in the Dolomites are generally open from late May to October. Triglav National Park covers much of what the Slovenian free day crosses.
