4 nights through Italy

Four nights from Venice to Florence, guided, thirteen hundred kilometres in a supercar with the car supplied.

The route is built around two obsessions, cars and food, and northern Italy is where both are strongest: Maranello, Bologna, Parmigiano Reggiano and balsamic vinegar all fall within the same few days.

Venice opens it at the Piazza Roma, then Ferrara and the lagoon town of Comacchio on the way to San Marino, a republic on a limestone crag that has run its own affairs since the fourth century. Dozza and the truffle country around Savigno follow into Bologna. The third day takes a Parmigiano Reggiano dairy and a balsamic producer, with the Ferrari Museum at Maranello between them, and a night at Salsomaggiore Terme. La Spezia and the Cinque Terre come next, the five cliff villages above the Ligurian sea, with a night at Portofino. Pisa and Lucca close the drive into Florence, where the cars are returned beneath the Piazzale Michelangelo.

The choice of high-end supercar, boutique and five-star hotels with breakfast and a Google Maps itinerary file with the recommended stops are included; flights, tolls, fuel, meals, traffic fines and a refundable security deposit of between €3,500 and €6,500 depending on the car are not. Spring and autumn are the seasons, since the Ligurian coast in August is impassable and the Po valley is humid. Five days covering a Grand Prix constructor’s museum, two world heritage food producers and the Cinque Terre is a dense itinerary, and it is worth noting that unlike the operator’s Tuscan tour this one does not include the fuel or the meals, which on thirteen hundred kilometres in a supercar is a material difference.
