14 nights through China
Fifteen days, guided, on a Royal Enfield 450cc Himalayan, from Kathmandu across the Tibetan Plateau to the foot of Everest.
The tour starts in Nepal’s capital and crosses the border into Tibet, where it visits Lhasa, which the operator calls the Forbidden City, before heading for Mount Everest Base Camp. The operator describes a 14-day adventure through Nepal and Tibet, covering about 2,270 km at four to six hours of riding a day on all terrain, and rates the difficulty as intermediate. The Tibet entry permits are part of the price, which matters because the border crossing is the part riders cannot arrange for themselves.
In Kathmandu the group explores before setting off, taking in Pashupatinath temple, Boudhnath stupa and Swoyambhunath stupa, with their blend of Hindu and Buddhist tradition. After the border crossing the route passes sacred temples, lakes and mountain ranges. Lhasa brings the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Bazaar, and the Drepung and Sera monasteries, where monk debates take place. The road continues through Shigatse, Gyantse and Sakya, with Yamdrok Lake and rugged passes on the way, and views of peaks including Mount Everest. The ride culminates at Rongbuk Monastery, near Base Camp, where the operator says the sunrise and sunset over the world’s highest peak can be seen. The return goes through Kyirong town and the Himalayan range.
The price is per rider, with a lower pillion rate and a single supplement of US$550. It includes the motorcycle, accommodation in hotels and guesthouses, all meals, local and international guides, a support vehicle with crew and mechanic, airport transfers, and Tibet entry permits and entrance fees. Flights, the Nepal visa, insurance and alcohol are extra. Departures are listed for May and September 2027, with a maximum of 12 riders.
