Perth to Darwin Self-Guided Motorcycle Tour

The remote north-west of Australia, ridden independently. Twenty-one days self-guided from Perth, twenty nights and 5,498 kilometres up the coast and across the top to Darwin. This is the most demanding trip in their range and it is graded as an expedition.

The coast comes first. The Pinnacles and their limestone spires, then the Murchison gorges at Kalbarri, then Shark Bay and Ningaloo Reef, where the coral comes almost to the beach and whale sharks pass through in season. Eighty Mile Beach follows, which is exactly as long as it sounds, before Broome and its pearling history on the edge of the Indian Ocean.

Then the route turns inland and the country changes again. The Kimberley is one of the least populated regions on earth, a landscape of ancient ranges and gorges with very little between the fuel stops, and the Bungle Bungles’ banded sandstone domes sit on its southern edge. Beyond it Katherine and Litchfield lead into the Top End and Darwin. Distances are long, services are thin and the route needs respect.
